Delhi-6: My favorite tracks

"Rehna Tu"
Sung by ARR and Benny Dayal, the track has a jazzy and soft feel, and an unusual rhythm. Parts of the song remind you of 'Tere Bina' from Guru (The part that goes 'Tu Zakhm De...') There are so many twists and turns to this song, but somehow they all fit in so beautifully. The jazz/soft rock mood smoothly gives way to Middle-Eastern beats, and then finally to a soulful Carnatic music instrumental piece to end the track. I hope to find out the raag (raagam) which has been used to compose that piece.

"Masakali"
Another one-of-a-kind song. 'Masakali' is not a very catchy phrase, but once you finish this song, you will be singing along to and humming 'Masakali'. The part that goes "Hawa se jud, Ada se ud" sounds somehow like an old Kishore Kumar song, maybe 'Eena Meena Deeka'.
The biggest surprise is that this song has been sung by Mohit Chauhan (of Silk Route fame). Mohit has recently become THE guy to sing soulful ballads, which he renders most beautifully. The fact that he was able to sing 'Masakali' in such a different tone/voice is simply amazing - kudos to him, and of course to ARR, for not playing it safe, and giving him the chance to showcase his versatility.
